Despite the tough economic times we are in, I remain an optimist. I cherish the love and support of my family and close friends. We rely on each other, that is how we survive. I thought for one of my posts this week, I would take some time  to talk about what we can do help.

For many of us, money is a bit tight, I know that, but for someone who is really in need, you don’t have to give more than you can. Sometimes just a home cooked meal, some fresh warm bread, money for gas to get to work. The greatest gift you can give people is time. If you know a stressed out single parent or caregiver, who can not afford to pay for alternate care, maybe giving them three hours to go off by themselves could be a good gift. For an elderly friend who can’t drive any longer, a ride to the pharmacy or the grocery store once a week could be a gift beyond compare.

There is a  couple in the Laguna Beach area who do something called Come to Dinner. They raise money to  give to the Laguna Relief and Resource Center by hosting a dinner party. They supply the main dish each guest brings a side dish, and about $30.00. They host a lovely meal for up to 15 people, and when they are done, and all the dishes are put away, they call the Laguna Relief and Resource Center. Donna Valenti gives them a shopping list, they go off to the store, buy what is on the list, and bring the food to the center. Some of it is used to feed the homeless, some is given to local families  who need help with groceries.

If a big dinner is more than you could do, you could host a pot luck, have each person bring a dish, and if $30 is too much they can bring $15.00. The amount is up to you.

The people of Haiti need your help! The devastating earthquake that hit Haiti recently has left so many without food and shelter. Ambiance Spa, Salon Ambiance and Convoy of Hope have teamed up to help raise money for those suffering in Haiti. We will be holding a Bake Sale on January 29th and January 30th 2010 and donating all the proceeds to Convoy of Hope.  We will also donate $5 to emergency kits from any services booked on those days and cash donations can also be received. Convoy of Hope can multiply cash donations into considerably more product that gets into the hands of those they serve. For every unrestricted $1.00 contribution that Convoy of Hope receives, they are able to distribute $7.00 (wholesale value) of goods (food, water, ice, clothing, medical supplies, school supplies, etc.).
